Toby was the first to sign up & has been with Excel since its inception in 2018, The choice was Toby’s & an easy one to make, following his coach from another academy made perfect sense.

The level of coaching is of the highest standard throughout, which despite injuries has propelled Toby to the highest ranked 2002 Slalom skier in the country. Schooling & pastoral care is exceptional & provides a sound & consistent basis for athlete development not just on the slope but also as individuals. There is a true  team spirit which is recognised in all they do.

Since joining Excel Race Academy’s Core Program my daughter has grown as a racer and as a person.  The high caliber coaching has pushed her out of her comfort zone, exposing her technical weaknesses. This has allowed her, with the support of her coaches, to reprogram her skiing mind and body and take her racing to the next level.  The complete mutual respect between athlete and coaches is what drives her racing forward.  Whilst developing as a racer she has also grown as an individual; learning to to take responsibility for herself on an off the slope, and to support her peers and others around her.  It is clear that being part of the Excel Race Team has had a very positive impact on my daughter.

Our daughter has thrived within the superb environment that Excel’s Full Time Programme creates.  The combination of focuses allow individuals to develop securely without losing track of any of the key components of the programme.  With Ski racing at its heart, the key element must be love of the sport, something you feel when meeting the team.  The ability  to ski on a wide number of mountain areas rather than be fixed to one, both within gates and when free skiing enhances and deepens that passion and has given our daughter confidence to take on any challenge.  The remarkably low ratio of athlete to high quality coaches allows detailed support and feedback to be given and new targets regularly set.  This means that our daughter has returned from a year away and quickly regained confidence and technical ability. The regular assessments and reporting cover not just skiing but fitness levels and training needs when back in the UK.  The pastoral care and athlete support provided within the Academy has meant she has settled into a new family life even though she is far from home.

The other key component, the ability of each athlete to maintain their education whilst training runs hand in hand with the on snow programme.  The fully professional programme provides superb feedback to parents and teachers in every subject on a weekly basis and our daughter has been supported to grow in confidence and organisation in order to keep up with her studies despite being away from half of the school year.  From our experience the education programme is second to none.  The latest development of joining the local High School for lesson time and interacting with local pupils, adds depth and quality to all aspects of Academy Life.  Joining Excel is without doubt the best decision we could have made for our daughter as she follows her dream of a life in ski racing.

“Refreshingly easy to communicate with, being a small team Rob and Christy provide individually appropriate coaching and feedback.  They expect good behaviour and motivation and encourage growth in all aspects of your child’s development both and off skis. Always looking for the positives and the experience gained from any situation, they encourage the right mental attitude and go over and above to provide support in all areas  for every single athlete.”

“My daughters Megan & Molly have trained with Excel for the last two winters and we’ve been delighted with both the experience and the results.

We have based our weeks on the flexible program with a little ‘living out’ when I have been on hand in Austria.  The base in Wiesing is in a great location where numerous different training hills can be reached easily.  I must say that the variation of the training hills is definitely a bonus.

The combination of small groups and fantastic enthusiastic coaching has really allowed the girls to flourish and bring their skills to a greater level.  The comradery between the group has been fantastic and very much a team feeling.

The schooling and tutoring has been well catered for and it’s nice that the local school is so accommodating, we have found that this works really well which is borne out by the comments from the girls teachers back home who have all commented on the fact that they have returned home actually ahead of the curriculum.

Molly was just 11 years when she joined and the experience has helped her develop great organisational skills having to get everything ready at night and to be on time in the morning.  In fact the whole experience has been wonderful for their development.

In conclusion we have found Excel Race Academy has done just that!  Exceled in all areas associated with this great sport in both training, racing, academic and social development and I highly recommend them.”

“Excel has been a brilliant new experience for Sydney with the flexibility of starting off with 5 weeks this year and moving onto the 12 weeks CORE programme 2020/2021.

Rob and the team have made it easy for Sydney to live in and become independent, organised and able to look after her ski equipment.

The training is varied from day to day so that they are having fun but also working on different techniques, fitness and diet are also a key part of the programme, running, yoga stretching and cooling down are just some of the sports the team concentrate on.

The coaches are very approachable both personally and on a training level.

Education is taken seriously as they understand the importance from an academic level, time is allocated for school work which works really well with the School and also Christy who is a coach but also a qualified teacher.”

“While skiing on the full time FIS program,  Excel has made me strive in my performance. The academy has not only educated me on how to be a better ski racer, but how to be a better athlete. The teachings of learning life skills, academic knowledge, physical fitness and training, and simply to communicate with each other on and off the hill have made a huge impact on me. Things like this have made me excel in my performance. To me, Excel feels like home, and always will due to a friendly and happy social environment. To explain the organisation of the academy is unreal; coaches are always happy to help in any sort of situation such as ski prep or general things an athlete may need sorting out. Staff at Excel have never lacked in any aspects of coaching, they are genuine and focused people who love doing their job of helping athletes reach their goals. Most importantly, the vibe altogether makes skiing so much fun! Athletes at Excel have always come back home smiling.”
